Verification privacy

Exchange identity checks and privacy

Identity verification processes personal information; a legitimate verification flow is not a promise of zero data risk. Check the provider, official entry point, purpose and applicable privacy notice before uploading documents.

Verification does not remove privacy risk

Identity checks and information security are distinct issues. This guide does not guarantee that any provider is breach-proof or suitable for you. Confirm service eligibility for your real residence first.

Documents, selfies and address evidence depend on the actual verification flow. You do not need to send identity documents just to read educational material or observe market information.

Read the policy that applies to you

Open verification through a trusted official application or a website you independently verified. Check the legal entity, regional applicability, notice date and privacy contact.

Look for collected categories, purposes, service-provider involvement, international processing, retention and request procedures. Do not assume rights or exceptions described for another jurisdiction apply to your account.

Account closure is not immediate erasure

For example, OKX's US privacy notice explains that some information may remain after closure to meet legal and regulatory duties. Binance directs users to residency-specific notices for retention details. These examples do not establish a universal retention period.

Use the applicable official channel for access, correction or deletion requests and keep the request reference. Closing an account, withdrawing marketing consent and erasing all historical records are separate matters; uninstalling an app does not accomplish them.

Minimize unnecessary exposure

Provide what the verified process requires, not unrelated family documents, card details or unredacted conversation histories. Follow the stated document rules before adding watermarks or masking fields; obscuring required details may make the submission unusable.

Use a trusted device, avoid screen sharing and review unintended copies in shared folders or messages. Do not delete your only necessary personal copy while cleaning up.

If documents went to a fake site

Stop further uploads and payments. Preserve the destination, timing, document categories and relevant communications. If credentials were also exposed, secure linked email and accounts from a trusted device.

Identity information cannot simply be rotated like a password. Depending on the incident, seek guidance from the issuing authority or local fraud-reporting channels. Do not pay someone promising complete internet deletion or guaranteed verification approval.

Frequently asked questions

Can a private agent complete verification for me?

Do not lend identities or purchase verified accounts. Complete the legitimate process yourself rather than sending documents to a private intermediary.

Does HTTPS prove the site is genuine?

No. Encryption does not establish that the site belongs to the intended platform. Verify the domain, entry point and request.

Can I decline verification?

You can choose not to use services requiring it. Do not substitute false details to bypass requirements; read applicable terms before proceeding.
